What you need

can plum tomato

yellow onion

tsp kosher salt
Instructions
Place tomatoes in a medium saucepan; add onion, and stir in butter and salt. Cook over medium-low, uncovered, stirring occasionally and mashing any large pieces of tomato using the back of a wooden spoon or potato masher for about an hour. Marcella removes the onion, sometimes I do that and sometimes I leave it in and smash it into the sauce. Season with additional salt to taste and serve.View original recipe
